SCOTTSDALE, AZ (AZFamily) — Applying to college can be one of the most exciting yet stressful times for high school students, and paying for it can be difficult for many.

No one is guaranteed loans or grants, but one organization is doing Something Good to help bridge the gap for children of first responders.

The 100 Club of Arizona helps assist first responders and their families through financial aid, education and support.

The organization is offering 100 scholarships to children of first responders. The scholarships range from $5,000 to $10,000. According to Melissa Kowalski, CEO of the 100 Club of Arizona, the scholarships total around half a million dollars or more for the children.

“It was a relief. Any sort of amount of money is helpful in any kind of way,” said Savannah Betancourt, who received a $10,000 scholarship from the 100 Club.

“With the rising cost of everything, college tuition, books and housing, any amount we could get is awesome, but to get 10,000 was overwhelming,” said Lawrence Dicarlo, Savannah’s father and a local police officer.

Applications are open until March 13. To learn more about the 100 Club of Arizona, click here.
