JOLIET — The Illinois High School Association Class 3A and Class 4A baseball state championships are Saturday at Duly Health & Care Field, home of the Joliet Slammers.

JOLIET — St. Laurence scored three times in the final two innings to pull away for its first baseball state championship.

St. Laurence (36-5) baseball won the suburban Chicago school its first state title since the 1990 wrestling team won in Class AA. Benet (26-13) earned its first state trophy in its second trip to state and first since 1989.

Daniel Coyle played the hero for St. Laurence, doubling in the sixth inning to drive in the go-ahead run. He finished 2-for-3 with a run and two RBIs. He also pitched the final three innings for St. Laurence, allowing three hits and a run and striking out four.

Gino Zagorac took the loss for Benet, allowing six earfned runs and 11 hits in six innings.

St. Laurence added two runs in the seventh, getting an RBI single from Enrique Villanueva and a sacrifice fly from Danny Donovan. Five players had two or more hits for St. Laurence.

JOLIET — Libertyville and McHenry meet for the Class 4A state championship at Duly Health & Care Field.

Libertyville (34-4) is seeking its first state championship in its third trip to state. They have second-place finishes in 1976 and 2013.

McHenry (35-4-1) is back at state for the second time, after a fourth-place finish in 2022.
