WACO, Texas ( KWTX /Gray News) – Five people were injured on a United Airlines flight from Missouri to Texas during severe turbulence Sunday night.

The flight from Springfield, Missouri, to Houston had to make an emergency landing in Waco, Texas.

The McLennan County Office of Emergency Management told KY3 the plane landed at Waco Regional Airport around 6:30 p.m. and was carrying 31 people – 28 passengers and three crew members.

At least five people were taken to the hospital for their injuries.

A spokesperson for Baylor Scott & White Health confirmed they received patients from the United Airlines flight. The spokesperson said all five people were treated and released.

The flight details from the Springfield-Branson National Airport show that flight UA5690 departed Springfield for Houston around 5 p.m. Sunday.

According to Waco airport officials, a storm front was approaching the area. Data on FlightAware shows the plane flying into a storm as it entered Texas, then gaining altitude and changing speed before landing in Waco.

Another plane picked up the passengers and flight crew around 1:30 a.m. Monday morning to take them to Houston, according to officials.

Two other flights, both from American Airlines, were also diverted to the Waco Regional Airport on Sunday night due to weather.
