Like a handful of other conferences in the broader college sports landscape, the ACC has undergone a jarring transition this year, adding Stanford and Cal (along with SMU) to a league with a titular coast that’s roughly 3,000 miles away from each of the two Bay Area campuses. Now, that new-look conference will crown a softball champion. Twelve teams will travel from across the country (literally) for the 2025 ACC Softball Tournament , where the winner will receive an automatic berth to the NCAA softball tournament while other squads look to polish their at-large resumes for the 64-team event. At 44-8 overall, Florida State enters the tournament as the prohibitive favorite after winning its 15th regular-season conference title. The Seminoles are No. 9 in the latest USA Softball poll and are a viable contender to make it to the Women's College World Series for the sixth time since 2014. They'll have some competition for the ACC's automatic NCAA tournament berth, though. No. 2 seed Clemson went 19-5 in ACC play during the regular season and is coming into the conference tournament hot, with 12 wins in its past 13 games. No. 3 seed Virginia Tech was able to salvage a win against Florida State in their final series of the regular season. No. 4 seed Duke is the reigning ACC tournament champion while No. 5 seed Stanford has made the Women’s College World Series each of the past two seasons.
