The New Orleans Saints made a vital addition to the secondary, landing free-agent safety Justin Reid on a multi-year contract.

The former Kansas City Chiefs star is expected to sign a three-year deal worth $31.5 million to join Brandon Staley's secondary. The deal reportedly includes $22.5 million guaranteed, per Ian Rapoport of NFL Network .

Reid, 28, was selected by the Houston Texans in the third round of the 2018 NFL Draft out of Stanford. He spent four seasons in Houston, proving immediately to be a key contributor in the secondary.

Following the expiration of his rookie contract, Reid joined the Chiefs during the 2022 offseason on a three-year deal exactly like the one he's signing with New Orleans. A two-time Super Bowl champion, Reid has been both reliable and productive in Kansas City.

After the Saints lost cornerback Paulson Adebo to the New York Giants , they opted to strengthen the safety room with the duo of Reid and Tyrann Mathieu, who is returning on a restructured contract. The cornerback room needs some work, but New Orleans has the No. 9 overall pick to potentially reload the position.

The Saints have had a busy offseason reworking contracts to get under the salary cap, but this is a splash move that should help keep the defensive side of the ball productive under a new defensive coordinator.
