The reports are in, and we all need something from 2020 to celebrate. A greater percentage of students successfully graduated in 2020.

What. A. Year. High school seniors didn't have the year they expected. None of us did. Though the seniors gave up prom, the last day of class (in a school building), graduation parties, sports seasons, and other expectations. The class of 2020 is a strong class; a class that held their heads high and finished strong.

According to a recent report from the Colorado Department of Education (CDE), the class of 2020 had a graduation rate of 81.9 percent, nearly a full percentage point above the graduation rate of 2019. In fact, 2020 seniors saw the highest graduation rate in Colorado in 10 years. That is something to celebrate!

The statisticians at the CDE have been hard at work. And they have been smiling ever since they delivered the results.

According to the CDE, the graduation percentages are figured by using an anticipated year of graduation. "The anticipated year of graduation is assigned by adding three years to the school year that a student begins ninth grade. The formula anticipates that a student starting ninth grade in the fall of the 2016-2017 school year will graduate with the 'Class of 2020'." The students successfully graduating during their anticipated year of graduation, make up the graduation rate.
