A woman was hit and killed by a car Saturday on New Hope Road in Raleigh.

At 8:12 p.m., Mark Baltimore Jr., 42, was driving northbound on N. New Hope Road. Gihan Lamy, 55, was walking across N. New Hope Road, not at a crosswalk. Lamy had crossed four lanes and was in the far-right lane when she was hit by Baltimore's car.

She died as a result of her injuries.

Baltimore was charged with failure to reduce speed to avoid a collision and misdemeanor death by motor vehicle.

New Hope Road was closed between Buffaloe Road and Marsh Creek Road, but the road has since reopened.
