Yesterday, the office of the U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia announced the arrest and federal charges of 59-year-old Linwood Barnhill, a registered sex offender with an alarming history. Living within the bounds of Washington D.C., Barnhill was apprehended on charges that revolve around child sex trafficking and related offenses, as per a detailed report by the U.S. Attorney's Office.

The investigation, led by the FBI's Child Exploitation and Human Trafficking Task Force, brings to light allegations against Barnhill suggesting that from April 1, 2024, to April 29, 2025, he did allegedly recruited and forced multiple minor children to partake in commercial sex acts from which he financially benefited. The charges laid against him include sex trafficking by force, fraud, or coercion; sex trafficking of children; and transportation with intent to engage in criminal sexual activity. U.S. Attorney Edward R. Martin Jr. is clear in his intention to thoroughly pursue justice in this case. Barnhill is not a stranger to law enforcement. Before these allegations, he served as an officer with the Metropolitan Police Department, according to the same press release.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Caroline Burrell leads the prosecution. The collaboration between multiple law enforcement agencies highlights the multi-faceted approach required to effectively combat the scourge of exploitation our society faces. In a time strained by the cries for justice and protection of the innocent, the office of the U.S. Attorney asserts they are thoroughly committed to dismantle and duly prosecute any such criminal enterprise that aims to prematurely snatch away the rights and innocence of children.

The public has been reminded that a complaint is merely an allegation, and all defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
