The Missouri Department of Transportation says the project on two section of U.S. Highway 59 in Atchison and Holt counties is scheduled to begin Monday. Officials say crews with Herzog Contracting Corp., LLC will begin in Atchison County at the Iowa state line and work south toward Highway 46 near Fairfax. Once complete, MoDOT says crews will move to Holt County and resurface Highway 59 from east of Route B to Interstate 29.

During construction, officials say the road will be narrowed to one lane with flaggers guiding motorists through the work zone. But, motorists should still expect delays. State officials says crews are scheduled to work Monday through Saturday during daylight hours, with the project expected to be completed by the end of July.

As part of this project, MoDOT says Highway 159 from the Little Tarkio Creek to Interstate 29 near Mound City will also be resurfaced in July and is expected to be completed by November.
