KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) - The summer sizzle continues today with temperatures back into the upper 80s but feeling more like the mid to low 90s. While today will be mainly quiet, the same can’t be said for our First Warn Weather Day Tuesday.

It’s another quick warm up today! Temperatures are in the low 80s by lunchtime. We hit the upper 80s this afternoon, and with humidity, it could feel more like the low to mid-90s. We should see some decrease in clouds throughout the day eventually seeing mostly sunny to mostly clear conditions this evening.

TUESDAY : Early Tuesday morning, the first of a few rounds of rain & storms. Keep in mind, a First Warn Weather Day is in place for Tuesday due to a few waves of rain & storms with the potential for widely scattered to numerous severe storms. The greatest severe threat will be in the afternoon to evening, as all modes of severe threats are possible, including damaging winds, large hail, and a few tornadoes.

We have a level 3/5 risk for strong to severe storms in our southwestern areas and a level 2/5 risk for the rest of the area.

The first batch for rain & storms will likely not be severe as they drop to the southeast. Rain & storms move in around 4/5 a.m. Tuesday and will continue to push east/southeast into the area through about 1 p.m.

We then get a brief break ahead of the second wave of rain and storms. These afternoon to evening storms will pose the greater threat for severe storm potential. These storms may be scattered in nature and lift to the northeast. These storms could form with the right conditions. We see the possibility of these storms 3 to 9 p.m.

WEDNESDAY : We then get yet another break before another batch of rain & storms moves in from the west starting around midnight continuing to push through into Wednesday morning. Then, areas to the southeast of KC have a chance for stronger storms on Wednesday afternoon. This should be mainly out of reach for the KCTV5 coverage area. A cold front will cool Wednesday down to the low to mid-80s.

We are seeing signs of some higher heat building into the weekend.
