Simmons was selected by the Chiefs with the No. 32 overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft.

The offensive lineman began his college career at San Diego State in 2022, playing one season before transferring to Ohio State, where he was part of the Buckeyes' 2024-25 national championship team.

The Chiefs believe they got "a steal" selecting Simmons at No. 32, per The Athletic's Jayna Bardahl . Once projected as a top-10 pick before he suffered a non-contact knee injury in mid-October that sidelined him for the rest of the season.

The 6'5" lineman has made notable strides in his recovery, continuing to trend in the right direction since sustaining the injury.

“(I want to) attack rehab as hard as I can. That way, when training camp does come around, I can be the most help that I possibly can be,” Simmons said, per Bardahl. “There’s nothing, really, I can do to kind of force — there are a lot of vets in here, and my thing is stay out of the way, work hard and be a helpful piece if I can.”

Since his selection, he has been making strong impression, most recently at the team first rookie minicamp.

“Josh is doing mostly the individual work,” head coach Andy Reid said, per Sports Illustrated's Dominic Minchella . “We try to keep him out of the team stuff — if we’re going against a defense — so just taking it slow here. We’re just kind of getting a feel where he’s at with this; he had a kind of a heavy traffic travel schedule during the 30-visit thing, so [we want to] make sure [his knee’s] strong and going. But he looks like he’s got some talent there.”
