ROANOKE, Va. (WDBJ) - The City of Roanoke is temporarily closing Washington Park Pool as of Friday, June 13, and potentially through the weekend, to conduct a “full safety assessment and necessary maintenance following recent after-hours activity at the facility,” according to Roanoke Parks and Recreation .

WDBJ7 has contacted a department spokesperson about the nature of the activity and what maintenance is needed, and has not gotten a response.

Friday afternoon, Roanoke Police officers visited the pool to document and investigate administrative reports of criminal activity, but they found no evidence of a break-in or property damage.

The pool was opened for the 2025 season just a week ago.

As part of this process, the pool will be fully drained and refilled to meet safety standards, according to the department.

The City also plans to enhance security at the facility, including the installation of additional cameras, coordination with the Roanoke Police Department, and contracting for dedicated on-site security.

“We are committed to providing a safe and enjoyable experience at Washington Park Pool,” said Valmarie Turner, City Manager. “These steps reflect our continued focus on protecting both our guests and the long-term integrity of this important community resource.”

While Washington Park Pool is closed, residents are encouraged to visit Fallon Park Pool, which opens Saturday, June 14. Updates about the reopening of Washington Park Pool will be posted on the City’s website and social media channels.
