Quick Reminders
As your kids are becoming more and more comfortable in the kitchen, be sure to remind them of food safety practices. Here are just a few to get you started.
- Wash your hands as you enter the kitchen and before you start. Wash your hands again if you touch your nose or mouth. This prevents you from sharing your germs with those who will enjoy the food you make.
- Be sure to keep ingredients where they need to be stored. Items that can be stored at room temperature need to be in a closed container and stored in the pantry or cabinet. Ingredients that need to be stored at certain temperatures should be in a closed container and stored in the refrigerator or freezer. This prevents foodborne bacteria from growing.
- As you're measuring ingredients, be sure to level off the top of the ingredient in the measuring cup. This keeps your measurements accurate.
