Unbelievable. With a civil rights lawyer with an undergraduate history degree serving as state comptroller, who would have thought Maryland would have out-of-control financial issues ( “Moody’s downgrades Maryland’s credit rating,” May 14)? I can’t wait to see how future Blueprint for Maryland’s Future educational funding is mismanaged. Actually worse than the Blueprint’s excessive spending requirements is the school reform plan’s lack of specific performance objectives and milestones. That’s almost criminal. No governing board or CEO would allow a $40 billion project to be approved without specific objectives and milestones. Maryland state government — both the executive and legislative branches — are clueless when it comes to financial management. But what do you expect when there is no statewide high school financial literacy requirements? A financially illiterate government.
