An explosion startled Florida City on Saturday morning, causing injuries and structural chaos at a local strip mall. CBS12 was first to report the incident at Palm Bakery, located at 941 West Palm Drive, where a propane gas explosion resulted in a partial roof collapse and injured eight people. Not long after the explosion, which happened just before 9 a.m., Miami-Dade Fire Rescue responded to the scene. CBS12 provided details about the emergency call that came in at 8:51 a.m., describing how firefighters arrived to find the damaged bakery and multiple victims. While the bakery was closed to the public at the time of the explosion, workers from a gas company were inside. An ongoing investigation seeks to unveil the cause behind the explosion that hospitalized a total of ten people. Local 10 reports that two individuals, affecting by the blast, made their own way to medical facilities, apart from the eight transported by emergency services. Responding to the incident, more than 27 units from Miami-Dade Fire Rescue were dispatched, with Horacio Rodriguez, MDFR Division Chief, highlighting the precarious conditions for the rescue teams. Local 10 quoted Rodriguez saying, "There was very little room to get in there," describing the challenges faced by the crew. The explosion not only injured individuals but also inflicted serious damage to the bakery and surrounding businesses; at least one neighboring establishment has been condemned as unsafe in the explosion's aftermath. Erika Benitez, an MDFR spokesperson, underscored the extent of the explosion's impact, affirming that multiple neighboring businesses sustained damage, although they were closed at the time of the incident. Fire crews, alongside canine units, scoured the debris, ensuring no additional victims remained trapped in the aftermath. Benitez provided an update via a video statement, indicating all immediate threats were curtailed with the gas to the building being shut off. A local bystander expressed shock over the explosive disruption, "I was just surprised," they told Local 10 , "You wouldn’t expect something like this to happen down here in Florida City."
