A 56-year-old man from Sturgeon was shot and killed in Northern Boone County Saturday evening.

According to a Boone County Sheriff's Office Facebook post , deputies responded to a shots fired call at the 18900 block of North Highway NN around 8:30 p.m. The caller reported that two men were involved in a disturbance and that one man had shot the other.

A victim found at the scene was treated by multiple emergency personnel, but he eventually succumbed to a gunshot wound.

Deputies found and identified 31-year-old Dalton Perkins, of Sturgeon, as he was trying to flee the scene.

According to the Boone County Jail roster, Perkins was arrested for second-degree murder, armed criminal action, domestic assault, and unlawful use of a weapon.

Personnel from the Boone County Fire Protection District, the Boone Hospital Ambulance Service, and the Columbia Police Department also responded to the incident.

This investigation is ongoing.
