Upon arrival, firefighters learned three smaller fires had previously been extinguished by individuals passing by. A second alert came at 3:00 p.m. for another fire in proximity to the earlier incidents, which crews also managed to bring under control promptly. Fortunately, these brush fires resulted in no injuries or property damage, however, the investigation into their cause is ongoing. During the probe, officials gleaned information of a dark-skinned man seen in the vicinity of the ignitions. He was reportedly wearing brown shorts and no shirt and was observed entering a white sedan that was last seen heading east on Luau Drive. The individual's identity and details of the vehicle remain a mystery at this time. What complicates these findings is an incident on February 21, when a home on Paradise Parkway fell victim to a fire that also affected nearby brush. In the case of the residential fire, a man matching a similar description was allegedly spotted on the property soon before the blaze, suggesting a possible connection. The Hawai‘i Police Department's Area II Criminal Investigation Section and Hawai‘i Fire Department are investigating both fire events in tandem. The community is urged to come forward with any information concerning these incidents. Witnesses or anyone with relevant details are encouraged to reach out to Detective Donovan Kohara at (808) 960-3118, or via email at [email protected] . Additionally, the police department's non-emergency line at (808) 935-3311 is also available for tips.
