Hibbing Police responded to a call on Friday on the 3700 block of First Ave.
HIBBING — Two men are in custody after an alleged assault as well as fleeing from police. According to a news release from the Hibbing Police Department, on Friday at 1:47 p.m., officers responded to the 3700 block of First Ave. for a report of a man assaulted. It was further reported the victim may have been stabbed, police said. The male suspects had left the scene, but descriptions of them and their vehicle were provided and St. Louis County Sheriff’s Deputies located the vehicle near First Avenue and Howard Street. The suspects fled in the vehicle, leading authorities on a pursuit. Spike strips were used on Minnesota Highway 37, near St. Louis County Highway 7, bringing the vehicle chase to an end on Town Line Road, near Peary Road. The suspects then fled on foot before sheriff’s deputies and the Eveleth K9 unit apprehended them. The men are being held at the Hibbing Jail, pending charges of aggravated robbery, second-degree assault, third-degree assault and fleeing in a motor vehicle. The News Tribune generally doesn't name suspects until they have been formally charged. The victim was treated at Fairview Range Medical Center in Hibbing and later released, police said. No other information is available at this time.
