Tragedy struck the Ville neighborhood on Saturday night when a collision at the intersection of Dr. Martin Luther King and Whittier resulted in the death of 47-year-old Corey McBride. The fatal incident, which occurred at approximately 11:38 p.m., involved a black Jeep Wrangler and a gray Chrysler 300, according to the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department’s official website .

An initial investigation suggests that the Wrangler, driven by McBride, was attempting to dangerously pass the Chrysler just as the latter was making a left turn onto Whittier. The resulting crash caused the Wrangler to flip over, tragically leading to McBride's death at the scene. Further complicating the incident, the driver of the Chrysler decided to quickly leave the crash site on foot, evading immediate questioning from law enforcement officers.

In a recent update, the hit-and-run driver took a step toward accountability by surrendering to the North Patrol Division earlier today. Accident Reconstruction investigators are continuing to piece together the events of that night, and the driver of the Chrysler is reportedly "cooperating with Accident Reconstruction investigators," according to a statement from the Police Department .

The investigation into the incident is ongoing. Authorities have not yet released the identity of the driver who fled the scene, nor have they specified any pending charges. The Police Department states that efforts to fully understand the circumstances of the crash are continuing.
