VIRGINIA BEACH — Christian Green, the city’s newest economic development director, resigned after less than five months on the job. “Christian Green put in his notice of resignation on June 11; specific details are not available to the public as this is a personnel matter in accordance with HR policy,” a city statement said. “We can confirm, in collaboration with Mr. Green, that he elected to resign from his position due to pressing family matters. Christian is leaving on good terms with the City, and we wish him well in his future endeavors.” Green could not be reached for comment. Deputy City Manager Amanda Jarratt is serving in the interim role. City Manager Patrick Duhaney appointed Green as director of the Department of Economic Development in February following a nationwide search. Green had more 20 years of experience in the public and private sectors, including more than a decade leading municipal economic development and tourism teams. He previously served as the director of economic development and tourism in Stonecrest, Georgia. Prior to Green’s appointment, Chuck Rigney, the former head of the department, resigned last July after serving for less than six months. Rigney’s travel expenses were scrutinized and a city audit in December determined that he should reimburse the city $10,000 . The city’s economic development director oversees the department’s operations and strategic initiatives to drive economic growth, attract businesses and support local entrepreneurs, according to the city’s 2024 recruitment brochure for the position.
