A Virginia high schooler was shot and killed last weekend while filming a ‘dong-dong-ditch” prank TikTok video with his friends.

Michael Bosworth Jr., an 18-year-old senior at Massaponax High School in Fredericksburg, was shot around 3 a.m. on May 3, the Spotsylvania Sheriff’s Office said. Deputies responded to the home following a burglary-in-progress 911 call.

The surviving teens told deputies they were making social media videos and playing ding-dong-ditch — a prank that involves ringing the doorbell then running away before the occupant reaches the door. The teens were running to hide when they were shot at.

Bosworth died from his injuries at a hospital. A second teen was also shot but was treated. A third was not harmed.

Tyler Chase Butler, 27, was arrested at the scene and was charged on May 6 with second-degree murder, malicious wounding and two counts of use of a firearm in the commission of a felony. He is currently being held without bond.

The surviving teens were not charged.

The shooting occurred hours before the teens’ prom and a week before high school graduation.

The incident comes on the heels of similar incidents in New York state, where a young woman was shot and killed while the car she was in was turning around in the wrong driveway, and Missouri, where a boy survived being shot in the head after ringing the doorbell at the wrong house while trying to pick up his siblings.
