WICHITA FALLS, Texas (KAUZ) - School is out for the summer, but that doesn’t mean the work stops to improve outcomes for students. WFISD is partnering with Third Future Schools due to Hirschi Middle School’s - formerly Hirschi High - academic underperformance over the years. Third Future Schools aims to provide students with innovative and personalized learning. They will also have before- and after-school care among their other plans. Superintendent for Third Future Schools, Zach Craddock, said the child care services are important, but the real change is made during the school day. “By being open from 6:30 am to 5:00 pm, we know that our families and the communities know their student is safe, they know they’re in a warm environment, cool in summer and they’re fed and have food. So we provide that option for our families, but then what happens between 7:45 am to 3:45 pm is the magic construction of the school day, that’s what makes the difference,” Craddock said. During the town hall, Craddock made comparisons to the school’s personalized education to how a coach would interact with their players differently based on their personality. WFISD Superintendent Donny Lee is happy for what this brings for the students of the district. “We are excited about just the opportunities for all of our students to be successful. That’s why we are in school. You know the purpose of school is for students to learn, and they learn in a variety of different ways. Students learn in different styles, methods, and times,” Lee said. This is a partnership between the two entities, which is for three years but can go to a maximum of ten. However long the partnership lasts, Lee is eager for the growth of the students.
